Discovering Black Hoof Park
Black Hoof Park is a 231-acre park featuring a 35-acre deep-water lake, Lenexa. The park offers a unique dam and spillway, several miles of trails through open grass and wooded areas, and fun natural play areas for children. This park is an underrated gem that many in the Kansas City metro area haven't fully explored.
One of the park's most amazing features is the lake Lenexa. They allow boating and fishing in the lake as long as they have non-gas-powered boats. The boat must also be class 1 (26 feet in length) or smaller. They also allow kayaking and paddleboarding and they even offer rentals. They rent four single kayaks and four stand-up paddleboards as well as they are available to rent May 1- Oct 15. The rentals include a paddle and a life jacket. Lake Lenexa has black crappie, channel catfish, bluegill, sunfish, and largemouth bass but you must hold a fishing license.
Black Hoof Park offers over four miles of scenic trails. The Lake Lenexa dam trail is a fan favorite due to it offering panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding natural beauty. Black Hoof Park offers 5 different playgrounds throughout the park. The playground near Oak Shelter includes a play stream that runs daily for 8 hours from May through mid-October, a sandbox, log stepping, and boulder climbing. There are 3 different play sets available: One play set for ages 2–5 includes slides, monkey bars, tot swings, and bridges. Two different play areas are available for ages 5–12 that have slides, climbing areas, spinners, bridges, hanging zip lines, swings, monkey bars, and rings. All of the playground surfaces are wood mulch except the sandbox.
The park has several picnic shelters that include amenities for a perfect picnic or party. The picnic shelters are available to rent if you are deciding to have a party or another large gathering of some sort. I would recommend that you go visit this park because it is large enough and has several activities for everyone of all ages. The park has such natural beauty and it is refreshing to go and take a walk and view everything.
