Discovering Strang Park

 Strang Park is located in Overland Park, Kansas. I stumbled across it while door-dashing. It caught my attention because it was so busy and had so many attractions. The parking lot was full and people had to park on the street in order to get in the park.

The park is very colorful and allows everyone of all ages to be able to interact with something as well as those who like to enjoy the scenery can do so also.

Strang Park is an 11-acre neighborhood park including a playground, historical sites, restrooms, and gaming areas. In 2021 and 2022, Strang Park underwent remodeling after receiving feedback from park visitors and neighbors. according to the Overland Park website, the new improvements include:

Overland Park’s first inclusive playground, featuring a 30-foot tower and slide, a sensory tunnel, climbing cargo nets, in-ground trampolines, and more;

A separate toddler playground featuring whimsical Farmers’ Market-themed play structures and a nature play area;

Family-friendly restrooms;

A gaming promenade with cornhole, checkerboard tables, and oversized lawn chess;

A vibrant mural by local artist Phil “Sike Style” Shafer, featuring uplifting imagery;

Inspiring words throughout the park from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech;

An updated shade plaza featuring the original railroad tracks from the Strang Line;

New tennis and basketball courts;

A loop trail;

Greenspace;

Additional parking; and more.

I would recommend visiting this park because it does offer quite a bit for everyone to do. It is colorful, and it offers several activities for those of all ages. This park is very interactive and accessible to those interested. The only downside that I saw from this park was how busy it got, and it did get full to the point of parking on the street, which could be dangerous for kids because there are cars constantly passing by.
