Discovering Thompson Park
Thompson Park is a 4.8-acre park in Overland Park, Kansas. It has a playground, splash pad, picnic tables, shelters, and a historic site. Not only is Thompson Park located in Overland Park but it is also located in the heart of downtown Overland Park. The park was renovated in 2019 and 2020 due to community reviews, and the improvements included two shelters, new restrooms, a performance stage, seating areas, working space outdoors with wifi, and an updated playground.
The historical site at Thompson Park is the Strang Carriage House. The location, built in the early 1900s, was used to store carriages and automobiles for Overland Park founder William Strang.
This park is small but does offer quite a bit for those of all ages. If you are looking for a change of scenery to work, they offer free wifi to go outside and work on what you need to do, they also have an updated playground that catches the eye of the younger children. If you would like to take a casual stroll through the park, take photos for class, or take homecoming pictures, this park offers good scenery and background to take a look at or use as a backdrop. I personally have been to this park back in high school to take pictures for the school dance, and the background from the park is wonderful.
The splash pad is a good amenity for kids or adults to go and cool off for a bit during the summertime. it offers plenty of amenities in such a small space for those of all ages. this park is very nice. it may not be super big and looked kind of cramped, but it is a welcoming space for not only the community but the public as well. if you have any free time or are in the area, I would say to go visit the park and take in all the natural beauty yourself.
